Learn To Play Drums | Do Not Get Discouraged

28th November

I remember when I was first learning to play the drums how frustrated I got when I couldn’t master a technique or some rhythm pattern that I had heard. My sage advice – don’t sweat it; you’re just learning. Learning to play the drums is extremely frustrating if you have never played drums before. But don’t quit! Never, never, never quit! You will learn to play if you keep on going and thumpin’ out the tunes.

Don’t try to compare yourself to other people either. You’ll have your own style, technique all your own, and you’ll learn at your pace. Just because it seems like someone else is learning faster than you are, that’s no reason to stop what you’re doing. Be patient and give yourself the time to learn. Learning to play any instrument just takes time, but it’s so worth it if you stick to it.

Here’s four main things you should keep in mind when learning to play the drums.

1. Be Patient! Nobody is perfect overnight. Like all musical instruments (or sports, or other hobbies) it takes time to develop some skills. You’ll get the chops, but you’ve got to work on it. Remember that everything that you take for granted today was at one time a learned skill. You couldn’t do squat when you’re a baby J I’m sure it was frustrating trying to learn to ride a bike for the first time, but you got over your frustration.

2. Practice, Practice, Practice, dude!

All the skills that are required to be a good drummer will only come with lots of practice. Not just any practice, but like one of my instructors said, “perfect practice makes perfect.” So you have to make your practices count and try to practice at the best level you can always trying to play the lesson as perfect as possible. Good drummers require a lot of coordination, timing and a basic ear for the beat of the music.

Now you don’t have to play your lesson perfectly the first time, practice a little at a time, and if you feel you’re just not getting it, put the drumsticks down and come back later to try it once more. So don’t just thump around to say you put your practice time in, make sure you’re doing your learning with the goal of doing it as perfect as you possibly can.

3. Don’t Compare Yourself!

Just don’t do this. My dad always told me, “son, you’ve got talent, so just play the best that you can. Don’t worry about anyone else. There’s always somebody who is taller, looks better, runs faster, and yes, plays the drums better. But you just have to be yourself.” I’ve followed that advice, and now I enjoy watching, talking and learning from other drummers who I admire and admit have better skills or techniques than I do.

But that doesn’t stop me from playing my style and adding my beat for the music world to hear.

4. You’ve got to love it!

I play the drums because I love it. My music is a place where I can go and be myself and contribute to the music world. If you want to be a drummer, then keep your dream alive and in front of you. Get some posters, photos, etc. of your favorite drummers, and that will remind you of where you’re headed. There’s always roadblocks, but like anything in life, you find a way around them.

Life will try to get in your way of learning the drums, but in time you’ll figure out a way to get the job done if you love it enough.

So get out there and practice and play with passion!

Animal Portraits, This Artist’s Specialty

2nd September

The difference between human portraiture and animal portrait painting is that while humans don’t mind posing, most animals do. It takes a lot of hard work on the part of the artist to maintain the animal’s attention. This is the forte of a Wilmington artist. Her ancestry is traced to the well known Delaware family. Her grandfather has this collection of sea and landscape paintings which were actually famous. It is not shocking then to learn that the painter in this female artist came out at the age of 3. Read this site if you want pets portraits information.

She focused her attention mostly on animals when she drew. She displayed her work at her own one man show at the local library at age 12 and started illustrating books at age 12. Thanks to her famous Philadelphia teachers, she became acquainted with the world of dance. For many years she did the solo dance work, doing a very convincing death scene one night in a show when she accidentally took a mouthful of kerosene from a lamp.

Although she makes portraits of so many animals, she focuses the most on canine portraits. There is just something so interesting about the way she begins her work on the dog’s portrait. She sketches as much as she can while the dog’s owner holds the dog still.

While she tries to find the best pose that would suit the dog, her pencil just seems to fly over her sketchpad. While she is doing this, she is talking to the dog, telling him he is beautiful and that he is a good dog. To hold the animal’s attention, she uses different props and even bits of food. She requests for the photographs of the dog that the owner has and then asks if it’s okay for her to duplicate any of them for her collection. She matches the different colors in the dog’s hair by cutting snips from the tail, ears, and tummy. Every dog has snips which are filed under its name. When you would like to get more information on pet paintings from photos check out this site.

Selection of the pose and the background for the shot is the next thing she concerns herself with. The kind of dog or animal used in the shot will be the basis for the selection of the latter. She actually decided on sitting in a duck blind to make the sketches for the background of a Chesapeake Bay retriever portrait.

She says that animals, just like people, can pass on judgment. This was proven by a damaged painting which had been chewed upon by an American pointer who seemed to show disgust for it. It must have been bad or at least bad for him for he had to have quite a large dose of medicine to remedy this expression of disapproval.

On the back of the portraits of beagles of bassets, she puts the kennel club’s identifying symbols, and for the scenery in the picture, she includes a paw print. With her dog to aid her, she even made abstract backgrounds. Animals are bent on giving artists a difficult time. She had an experience where she had to stop portrait painting for the day since one of the models ran off with a female. This may seem like an ordinary thing, but it does make one wonder if the unusual always happens while an animal’s portrait is being painted.

Dr. Seuss, The Writer That Everyone Loved

2nd September

When you were young, one of the things we love is to read or hear stories. One of your favorite books are comic books or children’s books. Whatever reason you may have, we all love books that are colorful and those stories that seem exciting for our age back then. And amongst many books, my favorite literature are works of Theodore Seuss Geisel, or commonly known as Dr. Seuss.

Dr. Seuss was an American writer as well as a cartoonist. His mother gave birth to him in Springfield, Massachusetts. Theodore published over 60 books for children in which he used the pen names Dr. Seuss, Theo. LeSeig, and on one instance, Rosetta Stone. The most popular works of Dr. Seuss are “Green Eggs And Ham”, “The Cat In The Hat”, and “How The Grinch Stole Christmas”.

Geisel attended Springfield’s Central High School. After graduating in High school he attended Dartmouth College for his degree. He joined “Dartmouth Jack-O-Lantern”, which is a humor magazine, during his college days. He eventually became the Editor-in-chief of the said magazine.

His works are so famous that some of his stories have been adapted on television specials, feature films, and a Broadway musical. Suffering throat cancer and many other complications, Geisel died on September 24, 1991 on San Diego, California.

Dr. Seuss works remain famous, even today. His works “The Cat In The Hat”, “How The Grinch Stole Christmas”, and “Green Eggs and Ham” have become really famous children’s books. These books are so popular that you will often see things featuring them. During Halloweens, I often see children dressed as the Grinch or wearing Cat In The Hat Costumes. I love to see children wearing a Grinch costume or Cat In The Hat Costumes during Halloweens, for they look so cute.

Theodore Geisel has truly become a legend. His stories has truly a a part of our history. We would be boring ourselves to death without his works, I think. Joy and laughter is what his stories give to us. Young and old, almost all kinds of people appreciate his works. Dr. Seuss works really captured our hearts, that’s for sure.

Jumping Fever – The Super Mario Craze

2nd September

There were no high-tech game consoles like the Wii or PSP when I was still young. Such game consoles never even existed in our dreams back then. However, we did have things such as these back then, although not as advanced as the ones available now, but nevertheless, we enjoy them. “Donkey Kong” is one of my favorite games back then. It is a game about a carpenter and his pet ape who he mistreated. Then the ape escapes and kidnaps the girlfriend of the carpenter. In summary, the object of the game is to control the carpenter “Jumpman” though 4 stages to rescue his girlfriend form his ape.

The two main characters became very popular because of that popular game. Donkey Kong would be the name of the big ape. Jumpman would eventually be known as the American-Italian plumber named Mario.

Mario is one of the well-know video game characters out there, if not the worlds most famous character in video game history. Because of his popularity, he has been in over 200 games of different genres As a tribute to the character, there have been Super Mario themed houses, giant Mario lego statues, Super Mario Bros Costumes, and more.

Mario is so well know that I doubt if there are people who does not know who he is. Even if they are not crazy about Mario, I think some people at least know something about Mario. However, there are lots (yes, I mean lots) of people who are into this Mario craze. There are also people who designs their homes like a Mario world, from the inside to the outside, even the furnitures! Me too, have once have been infected by this craze. I only play Super Mario games then, and I also owned lots of Super Mario Bros Costumes like Mario, Luigi, Toad, and even Bowser. I think I will look for my old Super Mario Costumes when I have the time for I think I still have them. I also think that I hum the Mario theme song often when I was still young. There are many people who have other ways of expressing this Mario craze, which are just too many to include in this article. But I think you get the idea of Mario’s popularity.

Super Mario Bros has become a big part of gaming history. It is not suprising that our grandchildren’s grandchildren will know and love Mario too! I would not be surprised if in the near future I see vehicles and houses that look like it came from a Super Mario game.
